Learning about Cake Balls

I was first introduced to cake pops by a good friend of mine, Lisa. She had her own bakery in Kansas. I originally bought a dozen from her and when I got them in the mail 3 days later....I fell in love! Yes, I really did! My kids and I enjoyed them so much. For Easter I bout a few more dozen from her to include in the kids baskets and I made a candy bar cake with some of them also. With that holiday over, it was time for me to learn how to make them on my own.

I was real curious as how to make them. I could have went to my friend, Google, but instead I wanted to learn from someone who had experience in making them. She literally gave me the directions step by step; easy enough for a 3rd grader. Simple enough...cake mix, cake icing and almond bark.

Like any anxious person, I ran to my local WalMart and bought everything I would need! Again, I over bought. That's alright, cause I ended up using every bit of what I bought!

So I began to practice and practice.  You should have seen some of the cake pops I made. OMgoodness! What a sight! I wish I would have taken pictures to post on here. Well, I can say this, it was a real learning experience. Fun, but I was in my learning stages.

For the life of me, I can't get the stick to stay on the pop. So I stopped using the sticks and just made the bites. I was so excited that I finally made something worth talking about, I instantly messaged her on FB. I talked with Lisa some more about how to decorate them and dip in chocolate. She referred me to a book by the name of Bakerella. Bakerella is a subject all of it own! Yes, it's that good.

So I went to Hobby Lobby and racked up on Wilton cake products. Lisa sent me some oil chocolate coloring and I began my next step of coloring my chocolate....Now, that was FUN! I have made every color of the rainbow and some colors that proably don't even really exist! LOL....

Now that I have learned to color my chocolate, I am ready to learn how to flavor my chocolate. I searched the internet and spoke to a few decorators and found that LorAnn Oils is the best to use. So again, I went on a LorAnn Oils shopping spree. I have ordered every single flavor. That way I can try, try again, then try one more time. I flopped on the first few times, but I finally got after about 20 bottles later. It takes times and a good palate to find the right taste for the chocolate. With that same flavoring, I also flavor my cake mixes and icings. So when I say Cotton Candy or Pina Coloda....it is REALLY that flavor!!! Now, I want to learn what flavors go best so I can mix them up and find the perfect flavors for my cake bites.

From here on out, I will make sure I take pictures of my cake bites and a short description. That way I can share my success and failures with all of you.
These are cakes that I have made at one time or another. These are prime examples of my work. I do have more candy bar cakes that I have made and I will upload them. I just wanted you to get a taste of my work. Some of these are experimental works of art and some are down right cute! I am still learning and I am always trying new things. When It doesn't work out the way I want, I take it apart and start all over again.
